Background

Solar Decathlon is sponsored and hosted by the Department of Energy(US). Solar Decathlon is a solar building science and technology competition with universities from all over the world participating units which is an integration of world advanced development team and enterprise technology and products, combining building design with technology such as solar energy technology in order to design and build a functional, comfortable, livable, sustainable solar energy residential. In 2017 SD international competition, the Southeast University and the Technical University of Braunschweig(Germany)form a team. Taking the jointly participation as an opportunity, we organize the 2016 China-German solar building joint teaching to deepen cooperation between SEU and TUBS and Chinese local government and related manufacturing enterprises in scientific research. Different from ordinary international joint teaching, this China-German joint teaching lasts for nearly a year, and the teaching results as the solar house will take part in the SD competition. During the teaching program, scientific research and talent training mechanism between universities, enterprises, governments will be promoted including the design of teaching, academic exchanges and research cooperation student exchange, etc.

The SD contest has five important nodes:

1.September 15,2016, beginning of graduate student union teaching

2.October 21 - 31,2016, 2016 Jiangsu - Southeast University solar building academic week, and solar building exhibition and the Sino German joint teaching achievement report

3.by the end of 2016, SD solar energy house construction test in Nanjing

4.July 2017, final construction and SD ten all-around competition in Dezhou, Shandong

5.August 2017, SD solar building open exhibition in Dezhou, Shandong

As part of joint teaching and a stage of SD international competition, propaganda and academic exchanges, the Southeast University and the Technical University of Braunschweig(Germany) and cooperative enterprises agreed to propose Sino German joint teaching and Academic Week in Southeast University and the 2016 solar building exhibition and symposium. In order to achieve the in-depth communication between domestic and foreign universities, enterprises, the relevant government departments to create a new type of architecture collaborative teaching and innovation platform jointly.
