In Spring 2024, the Asian Architectural Archive Center (AAAC) at Southeast University, in collaboration with the Internationalization Demonstration School (IDS), launched a series of seminars utilizing the materials housed at the AAAC. These seminars aim to cultivate new ideas, establish foundations for future research, advance research practices and enrich teaching through the study of the AAAC’s collections and participation in group discussions. In line with the primary goals of the seminar series, the contributors are invited to draw inspiration from the books and other materials housed at the Archive. Presentations ofwork-in-progress research are encouraged, with the aim of further developing ideas through collective dialogue and contributions from the seminar participants.
The inaugural series of Spring 2024 was hosted by Professor David Leatherbarrow, Director of the AAAC and the Foreign Dean of the IDS. In five stimulating sessions, contributors presented research inspired and supported by the AAAC’s materials. A diverse range of topics covering various aspects and scales of design was presented. Engaging discussions followed, enabled by active participation from colleagues and students alike. Participants included IDS and School faculty and students, along with colleagues from SEU and other institutions. These extended conversations elevated individual research efforts into a collective endeavor of learning and growth.
As in Spring 2024, the Fall 2024 seminars will be open to IDS and School faculty, Ph.D. and Master’s students, and invited visitors. Individual flyers, including details of each presentation and information about the contributors, will be sent out prior to each session. As before, an Archive Bulletin summarizing the presented research will be prepared after the series are completed.
