Zhu Lei, Winner of the 10th “Young Architect Award” of Architectural Society of China, is one of the first batch of Zijin Cultural and Creative Talents in Jiangsu Province. Since 1997, he has been teaching in School of Architecture of Southeast University, focusing on the design and theory courses of undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has visited MIT in the United States and Aichi Institute of Technology in Japan.

The main research direction is architectural design and its theory. He insists on taking design research as the core, architectural “space” as the clue, paying attention to relevant design ideas and operation methods, and placing them in the reality of contemporary China, exploring the independence of architecture and the possibility of its development at present. He has published monographs Space Operation: Foundation and Reflection of Modern Architectural Space Design and Teaching Research (Second Edition), Architectural Theory & Design: Space,Introduction Course of Architectural Design(Second Edition), Seven Commemorative Topics: Reality and Thinking of Contemporary Funeral Space Design, etc.; published more than 30 papers; won 7 national and provincial design awards for design and creation; presided over and participated in 10 projects of national scientific research and national construction standard preparation; presided over the design teaching plans which have been awarded the excellent teaching plan of Steering Committee of Architectural Society of China for 3 times. Design teaching under his guidance was awarded more than 40 awards at home and abroad including the First Prize of 2013 Future International Competition. He is also one of the main winners of the First Prize of 2018 National Teaching Achievement.
