Research direction: design methods of building and garden architectural theory research on Asian buildings comprehensive research on urban and rural environment from an international perspective, etc.
As the Doctor, Professor and Vice President of School of Architecture of Southeast University, Ge Ming is the Deputy Secretary General of Architecture and Garden Art Committee of China Artists Association, Deputy Director of Architecture Criticism Committee of Architectural Society of China, a Member of Jiangsu CPPCC, and an Editorial Broad Member of architects and Frontiers of Architecture. He used to serve as visiting scholar dispatched to Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), mainly being engaged in teaching, research and practice of design methods of building and garden, architectural theory and related direction.
Being a member of Chief Designers of China pavilion in Venice International Biennale of Architecture 2008 and a member of Designers of Hong Kong Pavilion as a participator of its exhibition in Venice Biennale of Architecture 2018, he attended the 1th and 2th China International Architectural Biennial (2004, 2006), Chinese Contemporary Architectural Biennial in Harvard University (2016).His design works, such as Wei Yuan Garden and Ru Yuan Garden, won ASC Architectural Creation Award - Silver Award and other awards, and he won Finalist of International Young Architects Award in Chernikov.
As one of principals of international cooperative study on Architecture Studies Theory (cooperating with AA), he has raised several design approaches and project methods of teaching including “volumetric method”, “structural method”, “amorphous method” and “six approaches to garden”. In addition, he has editedparticipated in many works and published more than 30 papers.Modern Architecture (Translation of this Book) edited by him obtained National Book Award. He won various Teaching Awards for many times. In terms of concept design in architecture, one of his students won Youth Student Special Award in the 1st China International Architectural Biennial after the reception of his guidance.
The compulsory course modern architectural theory, which graduate students of School of Architecture of Southeast University must learn, is taught by him and is awarded as excellent course for graduate students in Jiangsu province. He has participated in and organized the construction of Architecture Internationalization Demonstration School of Southeast University, international joint design and Teaching, as well as series of courses about Advanced Theory for graduate students. What’s more, he has participated in and organized cooperative study and teaching with many international universities including MIT, ETH, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Vienna University of Technology. He used to make speeches and exchange in lots of universities such as ETH, MIT, Tsinghua University, Tongji University Tianjin University.The University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and China Academy of Art.
