Research direction: theory, method and practice of architectural heritage protection, research on features and skills of traditional buildings of localism

Hu Shi is Vice President of Institute of Architectural Design and Research, and Institute of Architectural Heritage Protection of Southeast University. He also serves as Deputy Director of Key Base of Cultural Relic Preventive Conservation, and Managing Director of Conservation Technology of Cultural Relic Academy in Jiangsu Province. He has been engaged in protection planning, repair and design of architectural heritage. Besides, he has participated in designing architecture, garden and landscape environment related to traditional architecture. He has finished more than 20 protection planning, repair and design of cultural relic protection sites at or above provincial level, and 10 planning, repair and design of historical and cultural blocks. Related protection and design projects have won awards at national as well as ministerial and provincial level, including China Architecture Award – 1 Silver Award, two second prizes of Excellent Survey and Design Award issued by Ministry of Education, and one first prize and two second prizes of Jiangsu Excellent Engineering Award. The protection planning project of Yongchang Castle and the repair project of Soong May-ling Palace were awarded Top Ten Excellent Conservation, Survey and Design Engineering of Cultural Relic of National Cultural Heritage Administration. The protection, repair and design project of Guangsheng Temple in Yi town, Liaoning, won APAC Heritage Protection Award of 2010 World Architect s Association.

He has led 2 studies on sub-projects related to the supporting program of the Eleventh Five-year Plan for science and technology research and compass program of National Cultural Heritage Administration, and participated in 1 key project and several surface projects funded by NSFC. He has edited and participated in 6 works, and published more than 10 papers.
