Research direction: Urban Design Theory, Planning Theory
Chuan Wang is a lecturer at the School of Architecture, Southeast University. Trained in architecture and planning, his academic interest aims to answer how theory of urban design and planning facilitate design practice. He is an Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (HEA), Member of Architectural Humanities Research Association (AHRA), and Awardee of the Jiangsu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Talent Program. Within the school, he serves as the International Assistant to Head of Department of Architecture, taking responsibility for international cooperation and exchange. Dr. Wang holds a Ph.D. in Architecture (Edinburgh), a Master of Urban and Rural Planning (Tsinghua), and a Bachelor of Architecture (Tsinghua).
Teaching:
In recent years, histeaching focuses on transnational joint design studio and design foundation studio. His mentee students won the First Prize in 2019 UIA-CBC International Colleges and Universities Competitive Construction Workshop (ICUCCW) and a Bronze Award in 2020 China Human Settlement Environment Design Annual Competition (CHSEDAC). With teaching excellence, he is awarded with ICUCCW Outstanding Leading Teacher Award (2019), CHSEDAC Excellent Tutor Award (2020), 9-Town Architectural Research Fund’s Outstanding Teacher Award (2019) and Edinburgh Teaching Award Level 1 (2017).
Research:
Currently, his research focuses on 1) Global Mobility of Urban Design Theory, particularly between the West and China and 2) Post-structuralist Planning Theory and Practice, specialized in Lacan, language and discourse.
