2021年，是我国著名建筑学家和建筑教育家，东南大学建筑学科创立的一代宗师杨廷宝先生诞辰120周年。杨廷宝先生，字仁辉。为传承和光扬先生的学术精神，自2021年起，东南大学建筑学院开设“仁辉讲堂”，长期延请国内外著名学者、建筑师举办讲座，弘扬学术，激励后学，推动中国建筑和建筑教育事业的蓬勃发展。

Can growth be planned? The case of Melbourne

Growth may have a logic of its own that results in the unplanned appearance of development at the urban fringe. We summarize the challenges of planning for growth at the urban periphery in terms of the uncertainty, irreversibility, interrelatedness, and indivisibilities surrounding development decisions. Drawing on original research, we illustrate the growing pains of metropolitan Melbourne. We underline the challenges to public planning’s spatial logic of placemaking and sequencing but also the innovation apparent in the face of contemporary growth of new speed and spatial extent.
讲者简介
尼古拉斯·菲尔普斯（Nicholas Phelps）教授目前是澳大利亚墨尔本大学建筑与规划学院负责国际交流与合作事务的副院长、城市规划系主任，东南大学建筑国际化示范学院兼职教授。他曾任伦敦大学学院教授、副教务长，巴特莱特规划学院区域规划与经济发展首席教授，浙江大学、新加坡国立大学、智利北部天主教大学的访问教授。菲尔普斯教授的研究领域主要包括郊区化、城市群、区域发展与创新等方面，迄今在国际同行评议期刊发表论文80余篇，在MIT出版社、牛津大学出版社等出版著作5部。目前担任Economic Geography、Journal of Economic Geography、Progress in Planning、Journal of Planning Literature等城市规划和经济地理领域国际著名期刊的编委。
