SYMPOSIUM THEME

Urban morphology focuses on using new concepts and tools to reveal the morphological evolution of urban development, while also considering how to define and understand the functions of these tools. The rapid development of artificial intelligence presents new challenges for the development and study of traditional urban forms, and it also provides new concepts and tools for the research and practice of urban morphology, which remain to be fully explored. As the application of artificial intelligence in urban analysis and planning becomes increasingly common, we need to study not only its potential but also its limitations, ethical considerations, and broader socio-spatial impacts. It is encouraged to reflect on how artificial intelligence, as a concept and tool, reshapes our understanding of urban form and urban life, how urban professionals handle its challenges and opportunities, and what these transformative impacts mean for urban morphology and the future development of cities.

URBAN MORPHOLOGY IN THE AGE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE NANJING SYMPOSIUM will be held in Nanjing from March 28th to 30th as the opportunity to discuss the tradition and the new frontiers of URBAN MORPHOLOGY IN THE AGE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. Chinese and European scholars will debate, in front of colleagues, PhD candidates and some selected master students, relevant topics of nowadays as the digital transition in urban form studies, the EBD (Evidence Based Design) approach for sustainable cities, the possible development of Space Syntax tools, the role of generative and parametric design in urban regeneration processes.
